The jewel in the Formula 1 calendar is on the horizon as the Monaco Grand Prix takes centre stage this weekend. Whilst all eyes will be on home hero Charles Leclerc the five Brits on the grid will be looking to fly the flag in Monte Carlo.
Here is a rundown of what to expect from each driver and their form heading into the weekend.
George Russell
Russell has struggled to find his rhythm as of late, and a retirement from the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend all but compounded his miserable run.
The 43-point deficit to teammate Kimi Antonelli paints the horrid run in which Russell finds himself. No podiums in the past three races makes this weekend vital for Russell to get his title bid back on track.
It’s not do or die for Russell yet but it’s not far from that scenario and a podium is a must this weekend and he has to have his eyes set on beating Antonelli to get his season back on track.
Lando Norris
Norris was another Brit who struggled in Montreal, the reigning world champion retiring from the Grand Prix and walking away from Montreal fifth in the standings but a whopping 73-points behind leader Antonelli.
McLaren has been a puzzling car to predict performance-wise, and a yo-yo of results makes it hard to put the finger on the pulse of Norris and McLaren’s struggles.
Norris has history with Monaco none more than a win last season on course to his first world title and with a mixup of performance McLaren will be hoping they’ve hit the mark with their package and allow Norris the best chance for victory.
Lewis Hamilton
The seven-time world champion was back at his best in Montreal, even rolling back the years with a brilliant battle with long-time rival Max Verstappen on his way to a P2 finish.
Ferrari has been raising eyebrows heading into Monaco with many touting their smaller turbo to be the key towards a potential advantage around the streets of Monaco. Something which will be a symphony of music to Lewis Hamilton’s ears.
Hamilton will be a bang-on favourite for his first Ferrari win if their supposed advantage is to be correct but regardless expect a strong weekend from Lewis.
Ollie Bearman
From the current Ferrari to the potential future of the Scuderia, HAAS’ Ollie Bearman delivered a points finish in the last race, making the most of a race of attrition to finish P10.
The young Brit is looking steadier behind the wheel with each passing weekend and there is no doubt Monaco will be a test of a different magnitude. P12 in last year’s Grand Prix as a rookie is no easy achievement and points will be expected of Bearman this weekend.
The only thing standing in the way of that point’s finish is the HAAS package, the midfield being tighter than ever could sway HAAS’ performance but their Ferrari power unit could be a monumental boost.
Arvid Linblad
Montreal was over before it even began for Linblad on race day after a did not start following a last minute issue on the grid forcing the VCARB of Linblad to stall seconds before lights out.
The Monaco Grand Prix will be Linblad’s biggest F1 test to date, the tight streets and close walls will be a weekend full of learning for Linblad but also plenty of opportunity to further prove himself in his rookie campaign.
A big test for a rookie but Linblad certainly doesn’t look one to back down from a challenge and a good result could well kickstart a strong European leg for Linblad.
