The road to Formula 1 continues at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as the Formula 2 and Formula 3 championships head to the technical and demanding Hungaroring for another crucial weekend in their 2026 campaigns.

The British drivers arrive in Budapest off the back of a mixed outing last time out in Spa Francorchamps.

Here is what to expect from each British driver ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix:

John Bennett

Bennett will be looking to put his recent form behind him after not scoring any points in the last two rounds of the Formula 2 championship.

The Trident driver will be hoping for a repeat of his qualifying in Belgium; however, he put his car in a career-best fifth on the grid before unfortunately dropping down the order.

Or even a Red Bull Ring sprint race repeat when the number 25 sealed his maiden Formula 2 victory with a last-lap overtake after starting from the front row in Spielberg. Apart from that result, the Salisbury-born driver has scored only once in the 2026 season when he sealed seven points in the feature race in Barcelona.

Freddie Slater

Title-chasing Slater will be hoping to go into the summer break as championship leader, as he sits second in the championship, one point behind Ugo Ugochukwu.

The Trident driver has not felt the top step yet in Formula 3 in 2026; his closest was his home feature race at Silverstone, where he started from pole position but finished second behind Maciej Gladysz.

Slater closed the gap at the top of the championship with a 17-point haul in the feature race at Spa Francorchamps, with Ugochukwu not scoring any points in either race.

McLaughlin has had a rough start to Formula 3 in 2026, with only one points finish back at Silverstone in the sprint race, finishing ninth.

The Hitech GP driver’s results have been getting gradually better since then, with his best result being 13th in the feature race in Belgium.

The Magherafelt-born driver will be looking forward to the break to get ready for when Formula 3 returns after the break at the temple of speed, Monza.
