GB4 made its second visit to Silverstone Circuit of the season last weekend. Here’s what went down.
The series kicked off the weekend with qualifying, where 15 drivers had lap times deleted for exceeding track limits, with Archie Davies seeing three laps removed from the timesheets.
Thomas Ingram-Hill completed six laps, setting a fastest time of 2:01.166 to claim pole position for Fortec and kick-start his weekend in style. Fred Green finished 0.379 seconds behind to secure second place for Elite, while ADM’s Luke Hilton claimed third despite having a lap time deleted.
The grid for Race 2 was set using the drivers’ second-fastest laps, with the same three drivers occupying the top three positions in a different order. Green claimed pole position ahead of Ingram-Hill, while Hilton rounded out the top three.
Race 1 used the drivers’ fastest qualifying laps to set the grid, with Ingram-Hill starting from pole position. Both Matan Achituv and Torrin Byrne carried five-place grid penalties over from the previous round.
Conor Grant reacted quickly at the start, jumping from fifth to second. He spent the 10-lap race chasing down Hilton while also trying to defend his podium position after receiving a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits. Alex O’Grady moved into third off the line and remained there throughout the race, fending off pressure from Josh McLean.
In the end, Hilton crossed the line to take victory, while O’Grady benefited from Grant’s penalty to claim second. Grant rounded out the podium in third, making it an Irish 2-3.
Race 2 lined up with Green on pole and Ingram-Hill alongside him on the front row. Both drivers had endured disappointing Race 1 results and were looking to bounce back with victory.
The race got underway after a delayed start caused by a mechanical issue for Grant. The Douglas driver had to be removed from the grid, resulting in a DNS.
Race 2 saw four drivers fail to be classified following a series of incidents, including Bullard, Miall and McDaniel. At the front, Ingram-Hill got the jump on Green and took the lead, going on to secure his first win in the series. He also claimed the fastest lap, making up for the disappointment of Race 1.
Green held on to finish second and secure his first podium of the weekend, while Hilton rounded out the podium in third and claimed his second third-place finish of the weekend.
Race 3 used the reverse-grid format, with Connor Willis claiming pole position for Hillspeed. Enzo Hallman completed the front row, giving Hillspeed a 1-2 on the grid.
The race saw six drivers retire and two others disqualified for failing to comply with yellow flag signals. Amid the chaos, Willis led all eight laps to secure not only his first podium of the weekend but also his maiden GB4 victory, a monumental moment for both driver and team.
Torrin Byrne capitalised on the incidents around him to claim second place and his first podium of the weekend, while Ingram-Hill rounded out the podium in third to secure his second podium finish of the weekend.
