Restart Racing have confirmed that reigning Independent Drivers Dan Lloyd will drive with Restart Racing for the remainder of the 2026 season. The switch came after Restart Racing announced today that James Dorlin would be ‘standing down’ for the remainder of the season. Dorlin was having a brilliant season and was well in contention for the Jack Sears Trophy.

Lloyd was one of the noteable omissions from the 2026 grid as Dorlin took his spot with the team. The 34 year old stayed with the team to be a reserve driver and has now been promoted to the full time seat for the rest of the campaign. Lloyd has been a BTCC race winner at three of the last four BTCC venues so expect him to get up to speed quickly in Restart Racings’ Hyundai I30N Fastback. He will rejoin his teammate from his title winning season Chris Smiley in an attempt to claim more independent titles for the team.
Hear from Lloyd ahead of Donington Park this weekend.
Dan Lloyd, Restart Racing Driver: “I want to say that I know this is a difficult situation for James. I’ve been in that position myself before in my career and I know how tough it can be.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to be coming back. Restart Racing feels like home to me and what we achieved together last year was something I’ll never forget.”
“I’ve stayed really close to the team this season, working with everyone at the race weekends, so I’ve never really felt like I’ve been away from it. That makes coming back into the car feel very natural.”
“I know the Hyundai, I know the team, and I know how hard everyone works behind the scenes. I’m coming back hungry, I want to enjoy it and, most importantly, I want to help the team finish the season as strongly as we possibly can.”
