British racer Louis Foster finished 14th in the opening IndyCar round of the season at St Petersburg, Florida.
After qualifying ninth on Saturday, the Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) Racing driver made an untroubled start and quickly moved up to eighth.
However, the same could not be said for his new teammate, Mick Schumacher, who was caught up in a first-lap collision that brought his IndyCar debut to an early end.
Foster and his RLL team opted for a three-stop strategy and, despite leading the race at times, it ultimately proved not to be the quickest approach.
A variety of cautions throughout the race allowed the two-stop runners to save their tyres and stay out longer, which didn’t benefit those on the alternative three-stop strategy.
He crossed the line 14th out of the 25 starters, although he was the fastest driver among those running a similar strategy.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the weekend for the Droplight-backed driver.
Foster reflected on social media: “Led some laps, led our strategy, just ended up being the wrong one.”
The next round of the IndyCar season takes place this weekend at Phoenix Raceway in Arizona.
