The British drivers are readying for round 19 of the Formula 1 season as they arrive at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez Circuit.

It’s worth mentioning that two British rookies will take their rookie tests, with Luke Browning in the Williams and Freddie Slater in the Audi, with the team confirming that Slater will also take part in free practice one in São Paulo.

George Russell

Another tough weekend for George Russell last time out in Texas, with an eighth-place finish following a five-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.

The Mercedes man has now dropped to just over 100 points behind teammate Kimi Antonelli, who looks to wrap up the title this weekend. He is now only one point ahead of fellow Brit, Lewis Hamilton, and six points ahead of Max Verstappen in the race for second in the championship.

Russell, speaking to Sky Sports following the Texas Grand Prix, said the pace of his car was “rubbish, and that’s the bottom line.” And that he hopes the pace will return in Mexico City.

Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton enjoyed a weekend where his Ferrari looked to have improved as he finished the race in fourth position, whilst also nearly overtaking Verstappen in the first few corners.

The Ferrari man is still in contention for his eighth world championship trophy but would need a miracle. He has two wins at this circuit, so he is a contender this weekend. His main battle now is getting into the podium places in the world championship standings, battling his teammate Charles Leclerc, Verstappen, and Russell.

Following the race at the Circuit of the Americas, Hamilton said: “I’ve really got to try and extract more from this car like Charles (Leclerc) did today in the next few rounds.”

Lando Norris

Norris had a positive weekend in Austin, where he finished fifth after qualifying eighth; he overtook his teammate Oscar Piastri after team orders were issued a few laps into the race.

The reigning world champion hasn’t had it easy recently, finishing on the podium once in the last five races. Norris described the McLaren car as “one of the worst he’s driven in his career” in one of his press conferences recently.

Norris will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s Mexican Grand Prix, where he won the event by over 30 seconds to second place, Charles Leclerc.

Arvid Lindblad

Arvid Lindblad is enjoying his rookie season in Formula One, with a 12th place finish in Texas following a grid penalty from his originally qualified ninth.

The number 41 has never raced at the Mexico City circuit apart from a free practice session for Red Bull in 2025. Lindblad sits just outside the top ten of the world driver’s championship, just four points behind Alpine man Pierre Gasly.

The rookie will be hoping for more points this weekend to really boost his chances of getting into the top ten of the championship before the season closes.

Oliver Bearman

Bearman will be hoping for a better outcome this weekend after a 10-second time penalty was issued following a collision with Gasly and a DNF in Texas.

After the race, Bearman spoke to Speedweek and said the penalty was ‘unfair’. The number 87 has 23 points in the championship this season, sitting 17 points ahead of his teammate Esteban Ocon, while his closest championship competitor, Franco Colapinto, sits four points ahead of him.
